Cable gland selection rule
Cable gland size is selected by matching the measured cable outside diameter to a product sealing range and then checking the installation environment.
ODmin ≤ ODcable ≤ ODmaxSelect the first metric thread range that contains ODcablewhere:
- ODcable
- Measured outside diameter over the cable sheathmm
- ODmin
- Minimum sealing diameter from the gland datasheetmm
- ODmax
- Maximum sealing diameter from the gland datasheetmm
- M
- Metric cable gland thread size, such as M20 or M25
Thread size is not the same as sealing range. Final gland selection must verify material, IP rating, thread length, armor termination, and hazardous-area certification where applicable.
Assumptions
- Metric gland reference ranges
- Exact sealing range depends on product series
- Cable OD is measured over the outer sheath
Important Warnings
- Always verify the cable gland datasheet sealing range, thread, IP rating, material, and certification.
- Hazardous areas require properly certified glands and installation practices.
FAQ
Is cable gland thread size the same as sealing range?
No. A thread size can support different sealing ranges depending on gland design.
Should armored cable use a different gland?
Yes. Armored cables normally require glands designed to terminate and bond the armor correctly.
