FAQ

Should VFD size follow motor kW or motor current?

Use the motor nameplate current and the VFD's continuous output-current rating for the selected duty. kW is a useful cross-check, not the sole selection basis.

Does the input breaker provide motor overload protection?

Not by itself. The input protective device addresses short-circuit and feeder protection; motor thermal protection depends on the drive functions, motor data, and applicable rules.

When is an output filter required?

It depends on cable length, switching frequency, motor insulation, voltage, grounding, and the VFD manual. The calculator only flags when a detailed filter review is warranted.
